    • Defending Champions are Edwin Allen (Girls Champs) and Calabar (Boys Champs). This year has it’s favorites, expected contenders, and controversies already. @csharpe, you have to tell your favorites, this year… on the Girls’ side that is. We know who your purple cough white cough favorites are on the Boys’ side is already.

    • I man representing The College still. KC all the way.
The College has closed the gap on favorites Cbar. Cbar didn’t seem to send many of their athletes to Gibsos-McCook possibly to surprise people. Dem remain favorites BUT I expect The College to fight tooth and nails and take the crown back to North Street.

    • Champs has just begun about 5 hours ago and already there are at least 3 records broken, all in the Heats…

    • He did not run in the 800M. He is expected to represent KC in 1500 and 5000. Mr @csharpe, can you confirm?

    • After 2 finals of #Champs2017 and at end of day 2, defending champions are not leading. Instead Kingston College leads boys and Hydel High leads girls.

      Boys Champs
      1. KC – 27
      2. JC – 12
      3. Calabar – 11

      Girls Champs
      1. Hydel – 12
      2. Immaculate – 11
      3. St Jago, Holmwood – 10

    • After 6 finals of on each side of Boys & Girls #Champs2017 at end of day 3, the point standing has KC and Edwin Allen leading the races.

      Boys Champs
      1. KC – 74
      2. Calabar – 36
      3 JC – 32
      4 Petersfield – 31
      5. St Jago – 30

      Girls Champs
      1. Edwin Allen – 40
      2. Hydel – 33
      3. Excelsior – 30
      4. St. Jago – 27
      5. Holmwood – 26

    • Rogers from Uganda was beaten by the 1st year class 2 runner from Calabar (who actually broke the record) in the 1500M. He will still run the 3000M finals.

    • At the end of day 4 of the ISSA Boys & Girls #Champs2017, KC and Edwin Allen still lead but Calabar has closed the 38 point gap to 7 points and are now, according to the analysts and commentators, back in driver’s seat. I think Mr @csharpe might disagree. We will see come tomorrow starting at 1PM Eastern, 2PM Daylight.

      Boys Champs
      1. KC – 139
      2. Calabar – 132
      3. JC – 98
      4. St Jago – 69

      Girls Champs
      1. Edwin Allen – 130
      2. Holmwood – 110
      3. St Jago– 104
      4. Hydel – 89

    • Jamaica was not terrible but something is missing or fundamentally wrong with what is a talented team. 2 copa tournaments and 0-1, 0-1, 0-1 followed up by 0-1, 0-2, 0-3. Looks like they regressed. I am not optimistic for world cup qualifier since they lost the last one. Jamaica cannot win a match without scoring. Why would you expect them to score in September?

    • Submitted early. Issues come down to a combination of coach schäfer, capt burrell, the captain #19 mariappa, and lack of discipline, and probably insufficient practice time. fix those and Jamaica may get better sooner than later.

    • Mr. @csharpe, I guess they’re officially eliminated. They lost 2-0 to Panama, with Panama scoring a goal each half. This is one of the most under-prepared, under-achieving teams I think I have witnessed. Since making it to the Gold Cup finals, this team has done absolutely nothing. Even with hanging on by the ropes, nothing positive was demonstrated by this team.

You had a number of scenarios with none including losing any of the 2 matches, this one and the final one against Haiti.

If they drew this, according to your matrix, they’d still have a mathematical chance of advancing…
“3. They tie PAN and wins big vs HAI then PAN loses to CR — any combination of +4 goals for JAM — semi-realistic”

It’s sad to see a somewhat talented team not even making it to the final round of qualifying. T&T, on the other hand, booked their ticket into the next round. Congratulations T&T. We hope you surprise and make it to your 2nd World Cup.

Remember, if the Reggae Boyz finish with 10 total points, it doesn’t guarantee a top 2 finish and spot in the final round of WC 2018 qualifier. Neither does a total of 9 pts guarantee elimination.

    The probability is 100% if Boyz finish with 13 points (max they can now get);
Anything below that doesn’t have a 100% probability of advancing.

Mark your calendars. This Friday, Good Friday, March 25, 2016, Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz play the first of two home and home CONCACAF Round 4 World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica at the National Stadium in […]

    • Boyz played well at times but had that big lapse that led to the CR equalizer. With JAM match ending 1-1 and PAN vs HAI ending 0-0, CR still leads with PAN 2nd on goal difference, and JAM 3rd with 4 pts.

So, if you followed what I wrote in the piece, you may see that JAM needs a minimum of 6 points now but, preferably, 7 or 9 to finish with 10, 11 or 13 total points.

When JAM travels to CR on Tuesday, they are seeking at least one point, preferably a win (3pts) over their Central American rivals. Let’s see what happens on Tue night.

    • Remember, if the Reggae Boyz finish with 10 total points, it doesn’t guarantee a top 2 finish and spot in the final round of WC 2018 qualifier. Neither does a total of 9 pts guarantee elimination.

      The probability is 100% if Boyz finish with 13 points (max they can now get);
Anything below that doesn’t have a 100% probability of advancing.

    • I guess the Reggae Boyz should just think one thing: WIN.
If they WIN on Tuesday, as you said, they move to 7 points. Then later in the year, if they WIN vs Panama, they are 10 points. Then if they win the final match vs Haiti, they have 13 points, it guarantees them into the final qualification round.

Easier said than done, I know. I guess what you are saying is they should:
      1. Aim for a minimum of 10 points (minimum of 2 wins in last 3 matches).
      2. Take it one game at a time and adjust your chances accordingly since it’s conceivable that many of the matches could be drawn, changing the dynamics.

    • KC & Edwin Allen leading #Champs2016 with a lot to go in day 4. Will provide updates.

After day 3, this was the points standing:

      Girls Champs
      Edwin Allen (47)
      Hydel (33)
      Excelsior High (26)
      Holmwood Technical (24)
      St Jago (23)
      Vere Technical High (16)

      Boys Champs
      KC (41)
      JC (39.5)
      Calabar (28.2)
      Petersfield (28)
      St Jago (24)
      Herbert Morrison (16)
      Excelsior (16)

    • Going into the final day of #Champs2016, Edwin Allen has 41.5 point lead in Girls Champs whilst Jamaica College (JC) has only a 1.5 point lead.

With Edwin Allen putting a lot of girls into today’s finals, the probability of them repeating as champions is almost certain. On the boys side, however, favorites and defending champions, Calabar, is currently in 3rd in a 3-team dog fight. Who will win?

      Girls Champs
      1) Edwin Allen – 142
      2) Hydel – 102.5
      3) St Jago – 89.5
      4) Holmwood – 68
      5) Vere – 58
      6) Excelsior – 45.5

      Boys Champs
      1) JC – 102.5
      2) KC – 101
      3) Calabar – 93.5
      4) St. Jago – 63
      5) Petersfield – 32
      5) STETHS – 32

      Who will… Who will winnnnnnnnnnn……. ?

    • IDK but this is eerily similar to 3 years ago when I posted this.

      Desai Franklin – March 16, 2013 at 9:56 am

In girls Champs is all Edwin Allen
      1) Edwin Allen – 157.5
      2) Holmwood – 118.5
      3) St Jago – 88
      4) Vere – 80
      5) Hydel – 52

In boys champs is only between KC, JC, and Calabar right now but KC should start pulling away afta di first few finals today still.

      1) JC – 115
      2) KC – 113
      3) C’bar – 110
      4) Wolmaz – 51
      5) Jago – 35

    • Though I man hate that I was right, I have to congratulate Cbar and Edwin Allen on repeating. Cbar defeated The College and JC while Edwin Allen defeated Hydel and St Jago. Big ups to all the college men who represented, though not winning. KC goes to events to win and we didn’t but the effort was there. Fortis!
