Australia surprises many, brushes aside New Zealand to win Cricket World Cup 2015

In the Melbourne Cricket grounds of Australia, it was Australia who easily won cricket’s World Cup one day international (ODI) 2015 over New Zealand (“the kiwis”).  Scores in the match were New Zealand (NZ) 183 from 45 overs, Australia 186-3 (33.1 overs).

I say it was surprising because NZ had been the only unbeaten team in the tournament and had brushed aside most of the competition so far.  In fact, the Kiwis have played outstanding cricket the past 18 – 24 months but, apparently, home court advantage came into play for Australia.

You may recall that New Zealand, via Guptill, had destroyed the hapless, inconsistent West Indies by 143 runs in the quarter finals, then barely edging South Africa (SA) in a rain-shortened Semi-final match.  Australia beat Pakistan then India to make it to the finals.

Congratulations to Australia.  Congrats also to New Zealand for making it to the finals, undefeated.
