Usain “Lightning” Bolt sets new Olympic record

Usain Bolt wins 100m; sets Olympic recordDuring this year’s preparation for the Olympics (London 2012), defending Olympics champion and world record holder, Usain Bolt, was beaten by his countryman and training partner, Yohan Blake, in both 100M and 200M races. As a result, the sporting world was split on who the current “world’s fastest man” is.

At about 8:00 PM London time, the world got their answer. It was Usain “like lightning” Bolt who won in Olympic record time of 9.64 (originally 9.69) ahead of Blake (9.75) and American Justin Gatlin (9.79).

I’d say the worlds’s fastest man is still Usain Bolt, regardless of what happens in the 200M later this week.

Tyson Gay finished 4th in 9.80 and, not surprisingly, Asafa Powell pulled up and finished in 11.99. Seven men ran under 10.00. If Powell hadn’t pulled up, he might’ve finished between 4th and 6th.

Congratulations to Bolt and Blake. Please log in and say your piece here.
