Buju Banton to perform in “Before the Dawn” show
December 17, 2010

International reggae star, Buju Banton, who is out on bond until his retrial scheduled for February 2011, has been OK’d to perform at the “Before the Dawn” Reggae concert in Miami Florida on January 16. This will be his first performance in about a year.

Buju had to get the court approval to perform and it was granted. This is a third “victory” of sorts for the entertainer. The first was the hung jury instead of a conviction and the second being the bail/bond.

Speaking in a December 2010 radio interview about his upcoming show, Banton said “The concept is to reunite with the fans and thank them personally for the tremendous level of support they have shown to me during these turbulent times. I look forward to touching the stage once more and coming together with the masses in a spirit of togetherness, harmony, unification and solidarity.

Ironically, Buju has received his 5th Grammy nomination just recently.  He has never won a Grammy award.

Listen to the Banton’s declaration in his song “Innocent”.

Reggae Boyz wins Caribbean Cup

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz retained their hold of the coveted Caribbean Cup, when they defeated Guadeloupe 5-4 in penalty shootout after both teams were locked at 1-1 after regular time and extra time.  This was the 5th time Jamaica has won the championship.

In the third-place  match, Cuba got around Grenada 1-0, taking 3rd place.

The great thing for all 4 semi-finalists is they all qualify for the 2011 Gold Cup.  Congrats to Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Cuba, and Grenada.

3-Match Test Series Drawn between WI and SL

The 3rd and final test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka ended the way the others did, in a draw.   In a series marred by rain, it was certain by day 2 that this one was going to end in the same way.  In fact this third match ended without the West Indies finishing their first inning, at 303-8.

With Gayle trapped LBW on the first ball from Lakmal for a duck, Sri Lanka was flying high.  But the weather and the surprising middle-order proved tough for Sri Lanka.
