West Indies Starts On Losing Note

Brian Lara with his cricket bat

Sorry, Lara is not coming back, and doesn’t appear to be playing county cricket in England either.

Anyway, after having a bad 20-20 tournament, South Africa tours the West Indies for a series of matches.  The West Indies, having done poorly in the 20-20 tournament as well and in the last 8-10 tours, needs a great series.  Side note: the West Indies have not fared well in the last 8-10 series, in fact.

Losing Note Again

Unfortunately they started on a losing note.  They lost the first 20-20 to South Africa in a poorly contested match.

South Africa, who batted first, made 136-7 in their 20 overs with only the captain, Smith, and Kallis getting the runs.  The West Indies, in their reply, did nothing as usual if Gayle fails in these shorter versions of the game.  Gayle only made 14 off 16 deliveries.  Pollard made 27 off 17 deliveries and Bravo making 20 off 22 deliveries were the only two who did anything batting-wise.  So the West Indies were bowled out with a ball to spare for 123, losing by 13 runs.

Tired Of Losing…

South Africa tours the West Indies consists of 2 20-20s (T20s), 5 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 3 test matches.  If the West Indies can halve or win each of those, by winning 1 of the T20s, 3 of the ODIs and 1-2 of the test matches while drawing 1-2, it would be great.
